Hello athletes, A few of you have been curious as to what you should be doing for training during the month of April. Great question! Although April is technically a month off, that does not necessarily mean that you sit on the couch all day everyday watching Netflix (a few days like this are ok though ;) ) As your coaches, our recommendations/expectations are as follows. 1) April is the time of year to rejuvenate your enthusiasm and energy. There are no strict training plans that should be upheld. The most important thing is that you arrive back to the team in May ready to put in another excellent year of training and racing. Listen to your body. If you really feel like you need a complete break from training; take it! 2)Try something new! Never have enough time to try out that yoga class or go for that nice bike ride? Now is the time! Stay active while also getting off those skis for bit. 3)Sleep. Catch up on your sleep and have a bit of 'lazy time'. Get outside a bit later in the morning, if that's what your body is telling you it needs. 4) Reconnect with family and friends. Help your parents make dinner or invite some friends over to catch up and hang out. 5) Catch up on school. *Groan, I know, this one isn't so fun 6) Make sure to get all of those doctors, dentists, etc. appointments made and up to date. If something like low iron has been an issue, no better time than now to tackle it. 7) In order to be ready to go for your training in May, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND re-introducing your body to running. Nothing super outrageous, start with a ten minute jog and increase from there. Our hope is that by May, you will be able to run for one hour minimum with no major issues. Take care of yourselves, Katie |
