November 20th Geocaching Warmup Visitor's Centre
November 23rd Geocaching P2 Relais Plein Air

This Saturday's Adventure activity is geocaching, leaving from Relais Plein Air

For those new to the activity, "Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location."

In order for this activity to be successful, we need at least 4 parent helpers with smartphones (Android or iPhone) who are able to set up their phones as described below and participate in the activity.  Please let me know if you are able to help.

I'd suggest setting up your phone before Saturday to ensure it goes smoothly. We will have a practice session on Wednesday evening so we can be sure your phone is set up properly then.

More information is on the official website:

https://www.geocaching.com/guide/

To get started you will need to create a free account:

https://www.geocaching.com/account/register

Next you will need to install a geocaching app:

The official app is easiest to use:

https://www.geocaching.com/play/mobile

However, it only allows you to find basic level caches and doesn't let you save caches for off-line use

You can also try the following apps which unlock additional caches and allow you to save caches on your phone

Android

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cgeo.geocaching

iPhone

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/geo-bucket/id426675790

There are a number of caches hidden within a reasonable distance from Relais Plein Air.  We will be hunting for the basic caches which are the boxes with green lids on the map. We will be avoiding the puzzle caches marked with questions marks as they involve additional problem solving and complexity

I'll send a list of suggested geo-caches on Friday
