March 14th Cancelled - Season Over

At the moment. Things are moving very fast with COVID-19 and Chelsea Nordiq has a part to play in this.

In the last 24 hours, there have been extremely broad actions taken by so many and the recommendation of social distancing and cancelling events/activities. The Chelsea Nordiq Board of directors has been discussing our response and we want our club to be a part of this social responsibility. Minimizing the spread of COVID-19 is going to give our medical system the best chance of staying on top of the current situation and not being over whelmed. There are a lot of examples in the world of countries that have done this well and others that have done this poorly. The ones that have done this poorly have paid a big price. This is not a reason to panic but it is reason to be prudent and cautious in the short term.

After last night's practice that it was recognized that it is impossible to keep athletes/skiers at a safe distance from one another despite explaining the importance of it.  Kids will be kids. Coaches and parents also expressed that they were feeling uncomfortable that they couldn't manage the practices within the new guidelines of zero contact, 2m distance, etc....

At this point all major ski events have been cancelled and there is only 2-3 weeks left of snow (less if this rain keeps up). For both minimizing the spread and minimizing the risk of becoming infected, we are going to officially end the 2019-2020 Chelsea Nordiq ski season.

Chelsea Nordiq does want to encourage all families and athletes to get out, be active and enjoy the end of the season and ski the snow until it disappears. Maintaining fitness, self care and getting outside will be really important to staying healthy and maintaining mental health during this stressful time. At this moment it is prudent to do this in small numbers rather that large group training.

This year we are going to cancel the Cookiebiener as this event no longer fits with social distancing and zero contact.

At the moment we have booked our final year end party for April 19th at Camp Fortune. We will assess the situation and communicate with you closer to the event.

Stay Warm Dry and Healthy
